The Cinderella Project and Paramount
Pictures Canada teamed up to present a special
screening of the new Julia Stiles romantic comedy
"The Prince & Me" at Famous Players’ Silver
City Metropolis cinemas in Burnaby, on Sunday,
March 21, 2004.
The Cinderella Project is a
federal charity that provides underprivileged
high-school graduates throughout Greater Vancouver
with formal wear so they can attend their
graduation festivities with pride. Without
assistance, these students could not afford to
participate in this important milestone. The
project is currently collecting financial
contributions and formal wear donations for its
annual Boutique Day, where students select and
plan their graduation outfits and are treated like
royalty.
It truly is a Cinderella
experience.
And so it was at "The Prince & Me"
screening, where filmgoers dressed up in regal
fashion, complete with royal cape and tiara.
Portraits were taken and prizes were awarded,
including autographed posters signed by the
movie’s Prince himself, Luke Mably.
"This
has been a unique opportunity for us to raise
awareness for our organization," explained The
Cinderella Project co-founder Heather MacKenzie.
"Many of our Cinderellas and Cinderfellas have
struggled financially to stay in school; some are
disabled, and some care for ailing parents or
raise younger siblings. For most of these kids,
Boutique Day offers them the chance to spend time
with a caring, encouraging mentor. While we can
help them feel like a prince or princess for a
day, we’ve also seen many times how long lasting
the results can be."
