10 Years of Making Magic!
Vancouver, B.C. – On Sunday, February 22nd, media are invited to witness a fairy tale by joining us at the 10th Annual Lower Mainland Cinderella Project’s Boutique Day. While
most high school seniors are concerned with getting good grades and finding that perfect
grad date, hundreds of teenagers across the Lower Mainland face some very adult
challenges such as providing for their family, raising younger siblings or fighting life-
threatening illnesses. Finding the perfect grad dress or even attending the prom may seem
like a distant dream.
Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of “Fairy Godparents” from Greater Vancouver’s
Cinderella Project, more than 1500 Lower Mainland students over the past ten years
(since 1999) have been able to attend their graduation festivities with pride. This year on
Sunday, February 22nd, an additional 150 students will gather at the Vancouver Renaissance Harbourside Hotel to pick their outfit from an amazing selection of suits,
gowns and accessories, receive tips for grad hairstyles and makeup, and to be recognized
for their achievements. To honor the 10th anniversary of the Cinderella Project, the theme this year will be "Cinderella Goes to the Oscars". Because it is academy awards day, we're heralding it as a day where fairytales meet Hollywood, and each student will be made to feel like they've won an award for outstanding achievement.
On Boutique Day, each graduate is also provided with lunch and will go home with a goody
bag - filled with donated products like shampoo, deodorant, socks, granola bars, box
drinks and more. All of these take-home products help to make this day even more special.
Members of the media are invited to attend and experience Boutique Day through the eyes
of a Cinderella or Cinderfella. Participating students, several “Fairy Godparents” and
Project founder Heather MacKenzie will be available for interviews. The Cinderella Project
has received many awards and is proud to have been most recently awarded the 2008
YMCA’s prestigious Power of Peace Award. For further information, please check our The
Cinderella Project website at www.thecinderellaproject.com.
